Today is the 7 year anniversary of the first-ever BIG SHE-BANG, organized by the Long Island Womyn’s Collective. For a history of the Big She-Bang, check out Beth Puma and Kate Wadkins’ “I Got a Proposition Goes Something Like This: A Brief History of the Big She-Bang.” To see how the festival has changed and grown through For the Birds, check out our archives.
If you haven’t already checked out our friend Jamielynn Varriale’s great blog, Rock and the Single Girl, now is the time! For the past two weeks, Jamie has featured She-Bang artists Des Ark and Aye Nako in her Wednesday “Hump Day Treat” articles. Check ‘em out!
While you’re at it, head over to Artist & Panelist (on the “Feminism & Creativity” panel) Stephanie Land’s blog & check out her great post about the She-Bang, too.
First and foremost thank you for an amazing turn out and great participation–we felt that this year’s Big She-Bang was a great success! However, what’s most important is what you thought! We have gained invaluable insight into how we can better work with our larger community from conducting post-event surveys in the past and we take your responses very seriously. Please take a moment to fill out our survey about this year’s event: what worked for you and what didn’t? What could we have done better? What was the most important part of the day for you? Your responses will be anonymous.
We look forward to your responses and to another year of working together to create spaces where New York City’s D.I.Y. feminist culture can thrive!
